Overview of Neighborhood
Sometimes our projects stimulate municipal reinvestment – other times we follow at the heels of public investment like parks and sports fields and boost neighborhood momentum. Pollywog Creek Commons is a distinctive rental community just off Main Street in the heart of Labelle’s downtown. Round the corner from the town’s elementary school and newly-constructed soccer park, our $10 million investment revives a long-abandoned storage yard and creates eye-catching homes for families with aspiring students and soccer stars alike. It’s close to almost everything. Families can walk to a nearby grocery, a local restaurant or two and find urgent care at an adjacent clinic.
Pollywog Creek Commons’ 64 garden apartments dazzle! Award-winning architect Ted Hoffman brings joyful design to affordable housing through geometric windows placements and exposed concrete surfaces. Ethereal flora and fauna are embedded in building elements like fossils and sparkling glass block greets clubhouse visitors. Models offer large kitchens and range from 2 bedrooms, 2 baths to 4 bedrooms, 2 baths units.

Began as a late 1800’s settlement of cattle drovers and trappers on the Caloosahatchee River, Labelle remains a small town of just over 4,640 and the county seat of Hendry County, FL. Hendry County is headquarters to U.S. Sugar Corporation and the local economy is strongly tied to agriculture. Six of seven top area employers grow sugarcane, citrus and plant starts. Latino residents make up one-half of county residents, and one-quarter of county residents live below the national poverty level. Rural Neighborhoods’ Pollowog Creek Commons provides an inviting well-designed and affordable place to live for local agricultural employees and their families. In 2013, we break ground on our Pollywog Creek Senior Housing project creating an innovative, intergenerational community in the heart of Labelle.
