Residents Travel to Columbus

Five residents of Immokalee recently traveled to Columbus, Ohio, to attend the annual Community Leadership Institute (CLI) held by NeighborWorks America.  Approximately 1,000 people attend each year from communities across the United States, including Puerto Rico and Hawaii.

The CLI is a great opportunity for residents to meet people from other places and talk about problems and solutions for community issues.  Despite geographic differences, residents often find they have similar concerns that center around making their neighborhoods safer, healthier, cleaner, and full of opportunities for children and adults.   That connection with others who are doing similar work is what makes the CLI so beneficial to participants.

The residents who donated their time to attend with Rural Neighborhoods staff included:  Daisy Ortiz, Miguel Rodriguez, Peggy Rodriguez, Silvia Sabanilla, and Idolina Villa.  Now that they are back, the residents will have the opportunity to use the information and skills they learned in Columbus to tackle local challenges here in Immokalee.
